Scouting Report: (7/12/19) Donovan Kaufmann is on the smaller side but is muscular, durable and plays bigger than his measurables. While height is not ideal, I don’t believe it will be an issue on the collegiate level. He is a fierce competitor and never backs down from competition.

Donovan is aggressive and physical in the first level and plays with good functional strength getting over blocks and tackling. Displays better burst than top-end speed but he pursues smart and fast and can cover the field from most alignments.

He Shows really good instincts in coverage; anticipates and has a feel for where the QB is going with the ball. Donovan is savvy and natural with his reads and diagnoses. Shows ball-hawk coverage skills more than technical refinement but has the fluid hips and foot-quickness to mirror over slots and match up in man-to-man.

Donovan is very active in run support and can play the run effectively from the first or second level. He has a feisty yet disruptive style to his play when deployed in the box and slips through heavy trash and is difficult to block. He takes good direct angles with little wasted motion and excels as a blitzer coming off the edge. Donovan has a quick first step off the snap, will bend and close with great burst and closing speed. He will uncoil on contact as a tackler and his pop will jar the ball loose.

Donovan is a tough defender who is athletic enough to play all over the field. He is a high effort player who has enough speed and range to make plays from sideline to sideline. He is the type of player that really excels at Vanderbilt because he is overlooked and plays with a chip on his shoulder. This is a player that I might move to 4-star by the end of the season.
