Scouting Report: (7/15/2019) Gervon Dexter has an elite combination of size and athleticism with an explosive first step. He has good height and bulk, and with further physical development should be able to pack on quite a bit more good weight.
Against the run, Gervon uses his size and strength to disrupt the backfield. He needs to watch pad level at times but can be tough to move off the ball with one blocker and flashes ability to take on and split double teams. He can continue to improve hand usage, but has strong hands and excellent reach and is capable of quickly separating and shedding. He is an explosive player that is capable at times of being able to power through contact and disrupt with penetration.
Against the pass, Gervon could develop into an All-American pass rusher off the edge as well as a potential disruptive mismatch as an interior player. His combination of size and power can press the pocket. He will need to continue to develop the use of his weapons, but he is heavy-handed and capable of jolting and knocking blockers out of their cylinder. He also has the lateral mobility to execute effective double moves.
Gervon is an outstanding D-Line prospect who can offer some versatility with his size and athleticism. He demonstrates excellent short-area quickness and upfield burst to make big stops behind the line of scrimmage.
His most immediate need is to play with more consistent pad level at the point of attack, which can be difficult at his height. However, with his elite skill set and the high intensity he plays with he should be able to make plenty of disruptive plays early in his career.
