Jashaud Stewart will not wow you in terms of measurables on paper, but once you turn the film on you will be pleasantly surprised. At 6’2 and 221 pounds, he will arrive on campus a bit undersized as a defensive end but has an amazing skill set. In fact, when he reaches the offensive player, he brings more pop than most guys 30 pounds heavier than he is. He has a frame that should be able to add more good mass but if not could move to outside linebacker.
Against the run, is where he will need to add good mass to help anchor against bigger blockers but demonstrates he can fire out and maintain a good ‘football position’ and creates separation. He displays elite lateral agility to squeeze and take away cutback lanes and shows great awareness and discipline as a defender.
As a pass rusher, he is capable of quickly firing off the ball and getting up-field. Jashaud stays active and is violent with his hands in attacking blockers. Flashes the ability to convert speed-to-power and is a very good edge rusher at this stage.
Last season he recorded 89 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 10 quarterback hurries. The key to Jashaud success will be finding the right spot between gaining weight and not losing his athleticism. I have to admit, I was skeptical before I watched his game film. However, now I think he has the potential to become a big-time contributor for the Razorbacks. You cannot teach the type of instincts and aggression that he plays with.
