Scouting Report (4/13/2020) Marco Avant has ideal height and length but lacks the needed bulk at this time but should fill out relatively easy once he hits a fulltime college weigh training program. He does show raw strength and knows how to utilize it functionally. He runs well, covers a lot of ground quickly, and overall brings very good range to the table.

Against the run, Marco is a quick reactor in run support. He takes smart angles to the ball and will often beat blockers to the ball with his quick first step and reactive athleticism. He shows he can hold point and anchor when teams run at him. He has a strong upper body for lockouts and is difficult to outflank. He transitions in pursuit without much-wasted motion.

Marco drives through tackles with good explosion from the hips. He consistently knocks RBs back and eliminates second efforts. He also shows he can breakdown in the open field with balance and agility. Occasionally he will come in too hot and overrun the ball carrier, but that is a rare occurrence.

He doesn’t seem to have much pass coverage responsibility in his current scheme, so this could be an issue of concern. However, he has the skill set to be a strong coverage linebacker with experience. He looks to have his best football ahead of him given his frame and athleticism. He is far from just an up-field presence as we see three-down potential and a lot scheme and positional versatility. He could be a standout on special teams as well.

Overall, he needs to improve his take on skills and have a strong freshman year in the weight room but he is a versatile defender who has the chance to be a very productive player at the next level.
