Marlin Dean Is an intriguing prospect that possesses excellent height with good bulk and room to support some additional good mass. He should have no problem playing at 300+ once in a college strength and conditioning program. He displays very good playing strength as well as good get-off quickness.
Against the run, he displays ability to fire off and uncoil and hold ground when he stays low. With his height, that is not easy but he does a good job overall. He flashes ability to battle and at times split double teams. With great reach, he has explosive upper body power to separate and shed blockers. He needs to work to be more consistent with his hand usage but has all the tools to become great in this area. He also displays good agility and redirect skills for size to be active along the line.
Against the pass, he displays a good bull rush ability when he fires off and stays low. Again, learning how to do this consistently will take him to the next level. He flashes the ability to be able to get offensive linemen off balance with double moves and has the tools to be a disruptive pass rusher.
Marlin can be a physical presence in trenches and displays a great motor. There are many players in this class that might be more polished at this stage but few that have the combination of speed, size, and potential that Marlin does. He has all the tools in size, strength and mobility and you can see flashes off those abilities in action making for a promising D-Line prospect. He is the perfect candidate for a redshirt to gain weight and experience and be an instant contributor as a RS Freshman.
