Scouting Report: (6/16/2019) Tate possesses excellent height and length for the tackle position and demonstrates well above average playing strength, but while he is a big kid there is still room to further be developed physically with a frame that can support additional good mass.
As a pass blocker, Tate displays a jolting punch and extraordinary hands. He can quickly punch and gain placement with his upper body strength to lock out and control rushers. He consistently maintains a good base and demonstrates good balance with the ability to stay square and be able to redirect and shut down inside moves. He moves well laterally and can mirror with ease once locked on. Tough to overpower once he gets hands on the defender.
Against the run, Tate delivers a good initial pop and displays good strength to be able to steer and control defenders. He consistently rolls hips at contact and has the athleticism to be a strong second level blocker who takes good angles and locates targets well.
Tate has the tools to become a consistent producer at the next level early on. Once he is fully physically matured, he could develop into a first-round draft pick. Although he plays at a smaller school, he should be able to develop into a full-time starter by his sophomore season. The combination of Tate and fellow 2020 class could develop into the most dominant line in college football.
Currently, Tate is ranked as a 4-star by the 247 composite rankings. However, once he competes at the U.S. Army All-American he will likely get the 5th star he deserves.
