Tyreak Sapp is a physically impressive prospect with a big, broad well-built frame. He has elite strength and displays better range and play speed then testing might indicate. He has a non-stop motor and a tremendous work ethic.

Against the run, Sapp has the size and length to be able to set the edge when he stays low. He displays the ability to fire out with a good pad and deliver a good pop and hold his ground. He flashes active hands and good awareness with the ability to quickly locate the ball. He uses his strength to disengage and play the ball. He has good discipline and will play responsibility with adequate lateral mobility to squeeze and take away cut back lanes. He needs to build to top speed but can be a factor in backside pursuit.

As a pass rusher, he has some good moves including an effective club and swim. I would like to see him tighten it up a bit this offseason, but he doesn’t make a big swooping motion. Sapp flashes the ability to redirect inside as well as attack half-man and flip his hips. The tools are there but he could improve and better utilize his power and work to stay lower.

Sapp is a strong defensive end prospect with the tenacity and effort to get the most out of his abilities. I wouldn’t be surprised if he develops into a dominant 5 technique at the next level.
