The rich got a little richer on Thursday afternoon as the 2020 Georgia Bulldogs recruiting class picked up a commitment from 5-star linebacker Mekhail Sherman. Georgia has finished No. 1 and 2 in the class rankings over the last two signing periods and looked poised to make another big run before signing day 2020.
The Bulldogs have recruited every position well, but perhaps none better than the linebacker position and Sherman has all the tools to be a future first-round draft pick.
Sherman could fit into most LB positions in both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. His size, athleticism and scheme versatility made him one of the more coveted front-seven defenders in this class.
Mekhail possesses very good length and speed with an excellent first step and quick feet. He is a powerful downhill run stopper who cleans up between the tackles and drives blockers back on contact and plays with great leverage.
Sherman has the tools to play inside or outside linebacker and speed (4.5) to cover tight ends and running backs in pass coverage.
Sherman had been considering Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan during his recruitment, but is now is set to play in Athens.
